BANKNOTE ANATOMY

  1. Face: A banknotes’ front side, featuring the portrait.
  2. Back: The opposite side of the note, known as the underside.
  3. Background: Intricate and colorful patterns on banknotes are commonly employed as anti-counterfeiting measures.
  4. Serial Number: An early security feature, unique serial numbers on each bill help track legitimate notes.
  5. Watermark: A pre-printing security feature, visible when held up to light, often seen as a blank area on the bill.
  6. Issuing Authority : The bank or country that issue the banknotes. In this banknote example, you may find Bank Indonesia logo. Historically, certain countries might have had multiple issuing authorities at different times.
  7. Denomination: Displays the currency’s value and type.
  8. Authorized Signatories : Signatures validate the currency; historically, signatures were applied individually.
